Brooklyn, New York · 1982–1991 · 119 works
In 1981 Perillat returned to New York and took an industrial loft in Brooklyn, just over the Williamsburg Bridge from Manhattan. It became the most intense and productive period of his life: monumental canvases, many approaching nine feet tall, painted alone through the night. In 1986 and 1988 he won first prize in Discoveries, the citywide juried competition for under-recognized older artists, both times curated by Village Voice critic Peter Frank.
